When using any type of power saw, make sure that all guards are in place and functioning properly. This will greatly reduce your chances of getting an injury from a cut if the saw should kick back. Also, check to be sure that you are using an appropriate blade for the type of material being sawn. This produces a cleaner finish on the cut, and makes the task much easier than when not using the appropriate blade type.
2/1/2007 - Drilling with stone
When drilling through a piece of material such as natural stone, always use the proper drill bit for the type of material you are drilling. Apply small amounts of pressure to the bit, allowing it to cut slowly and to do the job it was designed to do. Unnecessary pressure, or rushing the tool, only results in premature wear to the drill bit, and potential damage to the work product. Allowing it to cut at its own pace should prevent it from binding, and from twisting the drill out of your hands. Place a scrap piece of the material you are drilling underneath the area to be drilled to prevent the material from chipping when the drill bit exits the work product.
