How do I care for my granite?
You can use warm soapy water and wipe up spill immediately. A natural stone cleaner can be used, which can be purchased at your local home improvement center. Do not use strong chemicals such as acids, oven cleaners or juices. Some strong cleaners will wipe away the coating provided by your sealer.
Should I seal my granite countertops and how often?
Yes, all natural stone products should initially be sealed and resealed at least once a year. Any natural stone sealer for granite may be used and purchased at a local home improvement center.
Why granite and not other countertop surfaces?
It is harder than any counter surface, the finest kitchen surface available. It won't scratch under normal use, burn or scar, is stain resistant and is beautiful, durable and adds value to your home.
Can I cut on my granite countertops?
Since granite is harder than any other countertop surface and harder than a knife, it will not harm it, however it is recommended to use a cutting board.
Can my granite stain?
Normally, no, though there is some absorption if a liquid is left for a long period of time. If the stain remains after the initial cleanup, the stain should slowly disappear after each cleaning.
Will this kit work with an undermount sink?*
Yes, although the kit is designed for use with a self-rimming (drop-in) sink, you could use an undermount sink. You would need to cut off the factory 'cut sink radius', and adhere the two sink pieces together (or it can be cut at any place your layout requires actually). then lay out your sink opening so it will be cut where the center of the sink is on the seam. This will give you the most strength, and the least amount of seam area. Once you have cut the opening, you will need to polish it. This will add some additional cost if you don't already own the equipment to do it. However, the necessary equipment can often be rented at your local equipment rental store.
Can I use a drop-in cooktop?*
Yes, although the kit is designed for use with a slide in range for free-standing stove, using a drop-in cooktop would only require that you cut opening for the cooktop. The edges would not require polishing, as with an undermount sink, since they will not be seen.
*If you decide to use an undermount sink or a drop in cooktop, use Extra Care in cutting and handling as the granite will be weaker around the edges until it is supported and in place on the cabinet tops.
